We are deeply grateful to you for the outpouring of love you showed during the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Your contributions continue to help families rebuild and renew their lives, giving them hope in their season of trouble. From a human perspective, this was a dreadful turn of events; but from a divine perspective, it is producing a far greater good.
In the 21 years that I have been blessed to shepherd the flock at Mount Pilgrim, never have I witnessed a mightier working of the Holy Spirit on such a large scale. Never before had we manned a shelter. Never before had we been involved in a workshop or seminar on the particulates of operating a shelter. But God asked us to open our hearts and our doors and allow Him to manifest His awesome power -– AND HE DID! Through the voice of a little boy who uttered the heart-piercing words, “nobody wants us,” God catapulted Mount Pilgrim into a level of service that has crossed barriers of all kinds, touching lives and changing hearts. God sent 263 beautiful people our way, 13 of which the church continues to shelter through our owned and leased home properties. We have shared several memorable events: the baptism of seven; the birth of two; and a wedding ceremony for a very humble couple who also rededicated their lives to Christ.
I thank God for Sis. Irma Miller and the leadership she gave to the shelter, and for the dedicated staff of workers that assisted her in providing around-the-clock ministry to the families we sheltered. - Jesse B. Bilberry, Jr., Pastor
